As we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy today, the Community Rising Project is reminded of why we do this work. Like Dr. King said, “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” As impacted individual’s who have experienced homelessness and struggled to feed our children, we know firsthand that democracy only works when everyone’s voice is heard – especially those who’ve been pushed to the margins.Dr. King taught us that “Make a career of humanity… You will make a better person of yourself, a greater nation of your country, and a finer world to live in.” These aren’t just words to us. They’re a call to action for all of us to get involved in our community, to stand up for what’s right, and to make sure everyone has a seat at the table.Let’s honor his legacy by continuing to build power in our communities – one voice, one meal, one act of service at a time.
